Hanging out with Nate and Oprah!

I had quite the treat this morning. I found an AMAZING listing earlier this week on Craigslist. So awesome I could hardly believe it! I e-mailed the lister to inquire as it was posted over a week ago. Much to my extreme delight and doubtfulness, he believed it to still be available. After a few days of bartering e-mails, my offer was accepted and all was right with the world.

The area listed was "Chicago Gold Coast" which is where the ridiculously rich reside. It is where Oprah and Nate Berkus call home. Nuff said.

He gave me the address for pick-up - OMG! It is a Chicago architectural landmark called the Joseph T. Ryerson, Jr. House. The Joseph T. Ryerson, Jr. house was designed by David Adler in 1922 to model a Parisian hotel. In 1931 Adler supervised the addition of a fourth floor and mansard roof. Above the entrance is decorative ironwork containing the initials of the original owner. Today the building is a private residence and only the exterior may be viewed. It sold for 9.2 million in 2006.

I fired up the GPS and was on my way. It was only 28.3 miles from my house according to Google Maps. :-) I absolutely love the city of Chicago and to spend a Spring morning enveloped by its beauty was highly enjoyable.

I finally arrived. I literally had to catch my breath at the gorgeousness of the building. I had to be buzzed in the front gate. Once at the front door, I had to be buzzed in again. Against the black entry doors, champagne color glitter hearts were affixed to the door pulls with gold organza ribbon. Just a lovely little touch. It would look totally ridiculous on my door but there - it was perfectly perfect.

I think I was in the building a total of three minutes so I tried to take it all in without looking TOO obvious. I was led into an office and there they were. In all of their general splendour.

I was in my pink Cubs jacket and jeans and I actually felt a little unworthy and underdressed for picking up a CRAIGSLIST item! LMAO! I drove away thinking how wonderful it must be to live that life. I don't know if I would be completely happy living there or if I would be the same person I am, but wouldn't it be nice to find out? :-)

SO WHAT DID I BUY? I am not ready to reveal what I purchased but needless to say I am giddy with delight! My dining room should be complete in the next two weeks so I will wait until then to share. I have so much work to do! Have a wonderful weekend!
