Grey Guest Room Reveal... Finally!

It's done!  It's finally complete!  And you know that feeling, that perfectly awesome series of emotions when a room is finally done and you can't stop looking at it!  LOL  Ok its time for a reality check - here are the awful BEFORE pics.  I know - I have WAY too much stuff.

This space is a guest room which, in actuality, had become a mini storage unit in my house.  I can post these pictures now only because the room no longer looks like this!  It was full of holiday decorations, Disney collectibles,  throw pillows (I never realized - I'm apparently an addict) and anything else I could simply throw in.  It was like a giant Tupperware cabinet and I hated to open the door!  LOL

Enough was enough!  I had bought this gorgeous bedroom set from Craigslist and it was taking up a lot of space in my garage as I had lost my motivation to do anything with it.  In the pictures it looked amazing, but when I got there, it was actually a dresser they tried to paint white and it was awful.  But I knew how pretty it could be so I bought it.  And then it just sat.  And sat.  And sat.

I scrubbed the wood drawers with a brush and bleach and water and let them dry in the sun.  I wanted a clean and fresh drawer for my stuff so I opted to paint the interiors of the drawers a Tiffany blue.  Two cans of paint samples was enough to give each drawer three coats by my sister and I.  I love the way they turned out.

The hardest part of the room was parting with and reallocating the clutter.  Once that was done, I was left with this room with lime green carpeting which had to go, lace curtains and Victorian wallpaper and border.  I remember my Mom doing this room in the early 90s as her "jewelry room".  She was an antique jewelry collector and she would spend hours in this room inspecting and repairing her pieces so it was a little bit bittersweet making this room over.  But I think she would totally approve.

The removal of the wallpaper was the worst!  It was border on top of wallpaper.  I mean hey, it was the 90s.  Everyone had "border".   It took a few days with fabric softener, a lot of hot water and a steamer to get it done.  Thankfully, my sister is a wall repair guru so she went to work with a tub of joint compound and endless amounts of sandpaper.    Once complete, it was time to prime the walls and paint.

I HATE hate hate removing wallpaper!  Its gross and sticky and clean up is always unending.

The paint color is from ACE Hardware Clark and Kensington line.  It is Late Night Serenade and it was perfect!  I seriously couldn't love the color more as it is rich and warm and perfectly contrasts with the white trim and furniture.

This sweet area rug is from Target and it is really nice quality for under $150.  It is a 7 x 10.  I seriously danced around the room at this point and I mean literally danced.   No clutter, fresh paint, no more icky green rug - I couldn't be more thrilled!

Here are some more after pics!  I found the chair at HomeGoods about three years ago and it fits perfectly - I love sitting in it and just taking in the room.  Such a difference and I hope you enjoyed me sharing it with you.   Thank you.

I found the bedding - all new in package on ebay for $38 shipped!  WHA?  I know!  It is Ralph Lauren Blue Paisley Suite and retails for over $800!  Included were the comforter, two shams and a bed skirt.  Can we say swoon?
